Terms of service

Browse and install pets. During launch week, all pets are free. After launch week, some pets cost money — those are clearly priced before you buy.

Read, fork, and modify the source code. The codebase is MIT licensed. You can use it commercially, modify it, or redistribute it.

Sign in with Google to manage your account. We use the email and name from your Google profile to identify you.

Don't use the marketplace to host malicious sprites, sprites that infringe on someone else's copyright, sprites featuring real public figures without consent, or sprites depicting violence, sexual content, or hate.

Don't abuse the install API or the MCP server to scrape, mirror, or rate-limit-attack the service. We rate-limit and we will ban abusive IP ranges.

Don't spam the waitlist or any account creation flow.

Don't impersonate other creators or claim ownership of pets you didn't make.

If you violate these rules, we may remove your pets, suspend your account, and refuse service.

Each pet on the marketplace has its own license, set by the creator. The default for the 50 launch pets (created by Melange AI) is CC BY 4.0 — you can use them, share them, modify them, with credit. Creator-uploaded pets may use different licenses; the license is shown on each pet's detail page.

The Hatchery is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. We try to keep it running, but we do not guarantee uptime, performance, or that any specific pet will be available indefinitely. We may take down pets that violate the policy above.

To the extent allowed by law, Melange AI is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of The Hatchery. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

During launch week (the seven days following the v1.0 launch), all pets are free. After launch week, some pets are paid. We will give at least 14 days notice before any pricing change to a pet you previously installed for free.

For paid pets (starting v1.1), you have a 7-day refund window, no questions asked. Email gabe@melange.ai with your purchase email and we will refund via Stripe. Refunds remove your right to use the pet going forward; we trust you to remove it from your Codex App.

If we change these terms, we update this page and the "Last updated" date. If the change is material, we email anyone with an account.

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION — Gabe to fill in once Melange AI's legal entity is registered] and any dispute is resolved in those courts.
